Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
The McGrath Foundation is committed to ensuring our care is effective, culturally safe and approached with sensitivity for anyone experiencing cancer.
We also provide a workplace that enhances and celebrates diversity, equity and inclusion across our team.
We do this in a number of ways across our care and our culture.
LGBTIQA+ Inclusion
We play an active role in the LGBTIQ+ Training for Healthcare Professionals project, a cross-sector initiative aimed at empowering all healthcare workers with the skills and tools to provide safe, inclusive care to LGBTIQA+ people experiencing cancer. In partnership with Western Sydney University, Breast Cancer Trials and Androgogic, the McGrath Foundation is developing an online education module for healthcare workers to help ensure LGBTIQA+ people have access to the right kind of care.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Care
To better understand and support the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing cancer, we have partnered with Waminda – NSW South Coast Woman’s Health and Wellbeing Aboriginal Corporation.
We work hand-in-hand to enhance Waminda’s existing cancer care model which prioritises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s ways of knowing, being and doing to deliver better experiences of care and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities.
As part of the partnership, we launched the Shared Learning Program between Waminda and the McGrath Foundation, involving opportunities to learn from each other through clinical placements, tutorials and in-services.
In 2024, we also welcomed our First Nations Clinical Lead and Educator as part of our commitment to Reconciliation and ensuring that we provide safe and equitable cancer care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Reconciliation Action Plan
We are currently working towards our second Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Our first was endorsed by Reconciliation Australia in 2022 and can be accessed here.
